Waste Sorting School
Launched on: 19.01.2017

Implementation of waste sorting culture and recycling of secondary materials is a necessity and obligation for Ukraine, in accordance with the Association Agreement with the EU, signed on June 27, 2014 (Directive 2008/98/EC on waste)

On average, each Ukrainian living in an apartment building throws away about 350 kg of waste per year, while those living in private houses - about 450 kg.

According to the State Statistics Service, the population and enterprises annually "produce" about 350 million tons of waste.

60-65% of this waste consists of recyclable materials that can be processed!

However, today 96-97% of waste in Ukraine ends up in landfills, of which about 2.6 thousand are authorized and more than 30 thousand landfills are spontaneous, i.e. illegal.

Landfills occupy 150 thousand hectares of land - this is 7% of Ukraine's area (2 Kyivs or 7 Odesas). Or for example, the territory of Cyprus. While nature reserves occupy about 4% of the country's territory.

Only 3-4% of all waste is sent for recycling.

At the same time, Ukrainian factories purchase recyclable materials abroad.

Why is everything like this?

Because there is no culture of waste sorting by the population and the necessary legislative base for implementing mass and widespread waste processing.

We are not deputies of the Supreme Council and cannot fix legislation, but we can teach you to sort waste!

The project solves the problem of lack of waste sorting culture in Odesa. It not only popularizes the idea of sorting, but is also designed to inform the population about how to sort properly, provides specific knowledge, necessary information and even practical training.

After all, sorting needs to be learned. smiley-smile.gif

Also, as part of the project implementation, sorting communities will be connected with companies that buy recyclable materials, i.e. one of the main questions of the population will be solved - "Where to deliver the sorted materials?".

In addition, consultations will be conducted on organizing logistics and developing infrastructure necessary for mass implementation of waste sorting.

1. Regular free lectures and trainings for the population, representatives of condominiums, organizations, enterprises.

2. Popularization of waste sorting topic at the level of local media.

3. Preparation and distribution of materials/articles.

4. Conducting campaigns promoting sorting.

5. Interaction with business representatives in this sphere (recycling), as well as with government representatives, to develop new development vectors.
