Creating a creative art space for Samchykivsky painting at Samchykivsky Applied Arts School

We are a team from the cultural policy and resources department dedicated to developing and popularizing Samchykivsky painting. We actively work to ensure this unique Ukrainian art is not only preserved but also developed and made accessible to everyone. Therefore, we initiate the creation of a Samchykivsky painting art space based at Samchykivsky Applied Arts School — a place where tradition meets modernity.

Our experience. Prior to this project, we have already implemented several initiatives aimed at preserving, developing and popularizing regional traditions:
- Regional ethnofestival "Christmas Bells";
- 1st and 2nd All-Ukrainian children's book festivals "Soroka-Biloboka";
- All-Ukrainian gastronomic festival "Pike-Fest";
- All-Ukrainian literary award named after Mykola Klets for best prose or poetry work for children.
- Established the "Saint Nicholas Residence" on the territory of the Ostroh princes' castle, where New Year entertainment programs, photo sessions with Saint Nicholas and fairy tale characters are organized for children.
Why is this important?
Imagine a world without colors and emotions... A world without memory. A world where authentic traditions disappear, where unique cultural heritage is forgotten... Where the bright, living, light-filled Samchykivsky painting is lost, which has been passed down from generation to generation in South-Eastern Volhynia and is the soul of our region. Sad and painful.
But we cannot allow this!!! We must breathe new life into Samchykivsky painting, create an art center where you can not just see the painting, but become part of it.
Our task: create a modern, creative art space in the very heart of decorative painting in Samchyky village - based at Samchykivsky School of Decorative and Applied Arts, where:
- Samchykivsky painting master classes will be held for children and adults (including IDPs and veterans);
- exhibitions of masters, bearers of Samchykivsky painting will take place;
- it will become a new tourist magnet for our community
Social impact:
Project implementation will change our community's life:
- Cultural revival: we popularize Samchykivsky painting in Ukraine and beyond.
- Educational aspect: we will teach over 400 children and adults during the first year of operation.
- Tourism potential: Samchyky will become another artistic magnet for travelers.
- Tradition preservation: our masters will pass knowledge to new generations.
We create a space that unites hearts, colors and dreams. Together we can make Samchykivsky painting part of the future, not just a memory of the past.
