Purchasing a car for children with disabilities
UPD: thanks to our active work, a specialized car has been purchased for us, but now there is an urgent need for fuel and maintenance!
Lack of special transport is one of the key barriers preventing full development and integration of children with special needs into society. We are convinced that purchasing a special vehicle will be an important step towards creating an inclusive society.
Public Organization "Guarantee of the Future" cares for 460 children with disabilities (with diagnoses of autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and others), and aims to purchase a special vehicle to provide mobility-impaired wards with the opportunity to attend classes in the organization's operating inclusive space. The space was created for children with disabilities, where corrective classes are held (speech therapist, psychologist, correctional teacher, ABA), sensory room, sports, adaptive kitchen, pottery workshop, meetings and communication by interests, day care group, where there is an opportunity to leave a child with disabilities with experienced teachers.
The operating social development space for children with special needs and children with disabilities is actually located in Odesa, Ivan and Yuriy Lyp Street 13. We want the opportunity to visit the space to be available not only to children from Odesa, but also to mobility-impaired children from the region.
All our wards are children, teenagers, youth with disabilities. They live both in Odesa and in Odesa region. Most often it is very difficult for them to get to any classes and inclusive activities, because they move in wheelchairs or with the help of other assistive mobility devices, cannot do without an escort. Not every car can deliver a person with disabilities together with their wheelchair or other large mobility device to the hospital, to classes, to rehabilitation.
Currently there is no disability taxi in the city, only public transport can be used, which in most cases is impossible and inaccessible due to limited routes. For children living in the region - such service is not available at all.
Today such service is needed for 200 people - children, teenagers, youth. Delivering our wards to classes and as needed will provide rehabilitation, socialization opportunities not only for children, but also give their parents a chance to take care of themselves, get some free time, socialize. This is a very important psychological factor for those whose loved ones have disabilities and need constant care.
