CNC Laser for FabLab laboratory #MiRONAFT
Mechatronics and Robotics Research Laboratory #MiRONAFT is Ukraine's largest laboratory in its field and Odessa's first technical co-work space.
Laboratory #MiRONAFT received FabLab status.
FabLab is an open laboratory format where anyone can work on their ideas and projects. More about what this status gives can be read in the article "What is a FabLab workshop and why do we need it?".
All Odessa residents who want to implement their idea can use the laboratory. Age doesn't matter! On Thursdays there are classes for kids, and schoolchildren often visit the lab.
Becoming a lab resident is easy — just pass a small interview and tell about your goals, interests and tasks.
The only condition for visitors — 20% of their time a resident must spend as a volunteer on the lab's socially significant projects (workshops in orphanages, robotics clubs, festivals, motivational lectures for students).
Residents and staff work on projects mainly divided into 4 groups: unmanned aerial vehicles, mobile robotics, additive technologies and industrial automation. The laboratory develops 5-6 projects in each direction.
The non-profit state laboratory cannot afford to buy the missing equipment independently.
Why is CNC Laser needed in #MiRONAFT?
It cuts parts of various shapes and sizes from wood, plexiglass and thin metal.
Such equipment allows making flat parts or assembling entire structures.
You can cut decorative elements, create interior items, souvenirs, or parts for your project/robot.

The project solves two problems:
1. Buying missing equipment for #MiRONAFT will give more opportunities for lab work.
2. Popularizing technical education in general and robotics in particular among youth. The 2017 admission campaign continues showing steady decline in technical education popularity, which will eventually lead to Ukraine's industrial collapse, as we'll have a huge "army" of lawyers, economists, programmers and marketers but almost no specialists capable of setting up production. Popularizing technical education — is the only effective way to prevent our country from finally accepting the label "Europe's raw material appendage".
