What is this project for?

Children in orphanages are often given toys. This good tradition can lead to bad consequences. Orphanage residents understand that they are owed something, and they can get something for nothing, doing nothing. Later this belief often pushes them to theft, parasitism in society, abandoning their children, who again fill orphanages.

These people might rob you on the street, but could become clients; they might sell drugs to your children, but could become colleagues.

The problem must be solved systematically and nationwide. And we are tired of waiting for government action. The "Manifest of Peace" Foundation has been supporting children in the regional orphanage "Svitanok" for 5 months. We don't know how successful this experiment will be, yet we believe that saving even one life is worth this attempt. It's important for us to test our model of working with residents of such institutions, so that in case of success we can scale it further.

How and what will be done?

We want to give a child something better than a toy. For us this is interest in life, desire to learn; and also to believe that only he determines how successful a life he will live. For this we:

+ Organize meetings with successful people who also had difficult childhoods

+ Show them what their adult life can be like, introducing them to people of different professions and companies in different industries. We will take children to places where people work who love their job

+ Teach them to use computers to help them take free online courses and learn with benefit and interest

We have already started working with children aged 3 to 17 who ended up in the "Svitanok" shelter. This shelter is distinguished by the fact that many children pass through it, which is convenient for testing the model's effectiveness.

What can I do?

The total budget for 12 months of the project will be ₴116,400. The "Manifest of Peace" charitable foundation will allocate ₴79,200 to cover organizational expenses and pay for the work of involved specialists. The missing ₴37,200 we need to raise to equip the educational space in the shelter. This amount will be enough for 8 Everest Home&Office 1005 (1005_2512) system units and you can give children a chance to find their place in life! Donate now.

In short:

Lack of information sources and tools for socialization and self-education among residents of "Svitanok" shelter

In detail:

We are all forced to observe the "cycle of disasters in the state". Children, losing parental care, become orphanage graduates. Without tools for socialization and conditions for life arrangement, they often turn to alcohol and drugs, frequently to illegal activities. Men end up in prisons, women give birth to children who end up in orphanages. Without reform of state policy in this area, there are no prerequisites for "breaking the cycle".

Children aged 3 to 17 end up in "Svitanok" shelter for temporary residence. Upon decision by appropriate authorities, a child may be sent back to biological family, to guardians, to foster family, or to an orphanage. Such decision can be made within two weeks to two months, sometimes court processes drag on for years. Shelter residents attend comprehensive school, where they typically lose motivation to learn, falling behind in curriculum and meeting negative attitude from classmates from prosperous families. The gap in school curriculum knowledge deepens, while most importantly - there's absence of alternative source of knowledge and belief that studying and self-development can change life.

Returning to a dysfunctional family, a child falls into the same rut without tools for self-education.

Computerization of the institution and further work of volunteers and mentors aimed at familiarizing children with online resources for self-education, self-development and professional self-determination. Through regular motivational meetings with successful people and excursions to enterprises and productions, we intend to develop children's faith in their own abilities and visualize goals/dreams for the future.

The project is agreed and approved by the director of regional shelter "Svitanok" and Odessa regional service for children's affairs.
