Launched on: 07.06.2017

From August 26 to September 30, 2017, the next 5th Odessa Biennale of Contemporary Art will take place. This artistic forum, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Odessa (Museum Director Semen Kantor - Biennale Commissioner), as in previous years, is the only regular biennial format event in Ukraine in the field of visual arts.

Events of such scale are usually held with comprehensive support from the state budget and representatives of the local community. Unfortunately, at this stage of Ukrainian society's development, the curators of the Odessa Biennale face many challenges not only in the field of art itself, but also with lack of funding.

The theme of the Main Project of the 5th Biennale - "Turbulence Zone" - has generated particular interest from Ukrainian and foreign artists. In total, more than 500 applications were received for consideration by the organizers, from which the Main Project curator Mikhail Rashkovetsky selected about 50 works by authors from various countries. Artists, understanding the significance of the event, come without fees, often at their own expense. This speaks to the relevance of the event and the importance of the issue raised this year.

The level and quality of the event largely depend, among other things, on the budget for equipping exhibition spaces, creating exhibits, and purchasing materials for installations. We are creating the history of contemporary art in Odessa and invite you to become involved.

By supporting fundraising today, you invest in the opportunity to see current works by Ukrainian and foreign artists, attend lectures and discussions about contemporary art, and participate as a viewer in intercultural dialogue in the language of contemporary art.
