Cat houses "Tail in warmth"
In winter, stray animals have a particularly hard time
Cats and dogs often die from lack of water and food during the cold season.
It's sad and painful to realize this. That's why I, Victoria, an ordinary resident of Kharkiv, came up with a way to change this situation and invite everyone to join the initiative "Tail in warmth".
Usually when people see stray animals on the street, they don't know how to help them and what can be done in such a situation.
🐾Someone can take the animal home right away to care for it and welcome it into their home and family. However, not everyone has the appropriate opportunities and conditions for proper pet care. Every tail needs a family, but not every family is ready for a furry friend.
🐾Someone calls shelters, friends, acquaintances and tries to place the animal independently. However, many shelters are now overcrowded and not ready to accept all homeless animals.
🐾Someone can buy food and feed the animal or let it into their entrance.
🐾And someone just walks by.
Indeed, the resources of shelters and individual benefactors are limited, so we offer a temporary solution for more comfortable existence of animals during the cold season on the street — a small and warm cat house, where tails can wait out bad weather in comfort, giving them temporary opportunity to be noticed by passersby on the street and taken into a family.
Placing such warm houses will help cats hide from bad weather and spend less energy on heating. The project plans to involve caring people who live or work near such cat houses. These people will bring food and water for the tails and look after them. By the way, Asian fusion restaurant GAGA installed such a house near its territory and regularly cares for its residents.
Besides, if someone wants to help stray animals more, they can take the animal to a veterinarian, treat, sterilize, foster for some time at home, and then return to the house so the tail can find new owners.
Our society finds it difficult to overcome the problem of stray animals on the street, as it requires comprehensive and systematic actions, state support at the legislative and regulatory level and raising ethical treatment of animals among the population, but I'm sure we can do something too!
Charity project "Tail in warmth" was created to make the lives of homeless cats less cruel and more civilized.
How, where and by whom was the first cat house created?
My son Vanya and I came to garage hub to try to make something with our hands. And so over several weekends under the mentorship of specialists we made a cat house: an insulated wooden house with a reliable roof.
And so began an initiative that helps stray cats survive the cold winter to find a new home and family with the warming weather. Our family has long cared for cats near our house and fed them. We want to develop this project so that shelters from cold appear in other courtyards of Kharkiv too.
Also in the future, the project can add the following steps for population control of animals living in houses, conduct parasite treatment, provide sterilization operations and ensure decent recovery conditions thanks to volunteers. Healthy, vaccinated and sterilized animals have more chances to find responsible and kind owners.
Now we are expanding the number of such houses, for which we attract funding on the platform for materials for production and transportation, and also involve caring volunteers here.
