Hospital Clowns Ukraine

The founder and leader of the Hospital Clowns Ukraine project in Odessa became businessman and public figure Sergey Rudyuk.
The project began its activities in 2013. In the same year we took first place and won the main grant at the Ukraine social projects competition "Social Camp Ukraine".
Hospital clowns are professionally trained actors, volunteers who help children adapt in the hospital, distract them from painful procedures and upcoming operations, and most importantly - motivate children for proper treatment.
Now similar projects exist in many cities of Ukraine, as well as in other CIS countries. For Ukrainians, seeing a clown in a ward is still somewhat unusual and surprising, but in European and American countries, Hospital clowns have long been part of the hospital staff. This is what we strive for, as the project has shown real results, visible not only to us, but also to medical staff and parents.
At the moment we already work closely with attending physicians and help each other's work. The first thing a clown can help a doctor with is to establish contact with a frightened and withdrawn child.
The harsh hospital regime can be a test even for an adult, and what can we say about children who were forced to change games and home comfort for hospital walls and painful procedures. And this can sometimes drag on for weeks, months. The work of a hospital clown is to create a comfortable trusting atmosphere with games, jokes and proper communication, in which the child will want to smile, eat and take medicine.
The first smile, a timid step forward, the first desire to eat and overcome fear before the first injection together with a clown - this is already a step towards recovery!
