The GladPet team continues the stray animal sterilization project to create a solution for uncontrolled breeding that leads to overpopulation and suffering of pets, as well as deterioration of sanitary standards in communities. The main focus is preventing unplanned pregnancies and births of new generations of stray animals.

Animal sterilization is the responsibility of every owner or caretaker of an animal, because if this procedure is neglected, in three years an unneutered male and unsterilized female can give birth to about 512 dogs and 382 cats. One of the humane ways to reduce the number of animals on the street is their sterilization.

Why sterilize stray and domestic animals at all?

  1. Animal lifespan increases by 3-5 years. Neutered pets on average live 25% longer than their unneutered counterparts.

  2. Reduces cancer risk, as castration prevents some common inflammatory and oncological diseases.

  3. They stop marking territory.

  4. Due to behavior changes reduces risk of injuries in fights and death on the street, animals become less aggressive.

  5. Reduces the number of stray animals.

Previous implementations of a similar project, with the veterinary clinic "Exvet", helped perform sterilizations for 177 animals in Odesa, which reduced the stray animal population by 39,336 cats and dogs.
