Documentary film "Caution: Children"
"Caution: CHILDREN" is a kaleidoscope film consisting of a series of short novellas about children during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
These personal stories are a review, a generalized picture of what Ukrainian children and their parents have to go through during the brutal and cynical war unleashed by Russia on the territory of sovereign and independent Ukraine. In the first weeks of the full-scale invasion, we, "Dobranichfilm" company, began filming stories about doctors and patients at Okhmatdyt hospital. There I met Vova and his mother, who were patients at the hospital at that time.
In the first days of the full-scale invasion Vova with his mother, father, aunt and younger brother were going to Kyiv railway station to catch an evacuation train. But on the way they came under terrible shelling. Events unfolded in seconds. Father and 6-year-old brother were shot on the spot. Mother and aunt were wounded. Vova instinctively covered himself with a backpack, this saved his life, but he still received multiple wounds. The boy went through a series of complex operations.
The footage we shot at the hospital became the basis for the first project teaser:
Vova is a generalized image of all children who suffered trauma in war, who received serious injuries and continue to fight to restore the life they had before meeting Russian occupiers. As of June 22, 2022, over 600 injured children were recorded in Ukraine.
We want to tell stories of children who survived Russian occupation and violence. Who were kidnapped and taken to territory not controlled by Ukraine. We also plan to film stories of volunteer children and children who performed heroic acts and saved adults.
Recording of the most traumatic novellas will be conducted in the presence of a psychologist.
Why doesn't the enemy spare children? Because children are the future of the nation. And this future the enemy cynically tries to destroy. We must not let them do this. And cinema is an effective tool for preserving truth.
