Music Day returns to Kharkiv!
For many years on June 21st, "Music Day" takes place worldwide: musicians come out to play on the streets of their cities, and citizens stroll locations, dance under the open sky and enjoy freedom. For 7 years Kharkiv was part of this global orchestra, but due to the pandemic we had to take a break. This year we want to restore the "traditional" format and bring "Music Day" back to the squares and streets of our city.
"Music Day in Kharkiv" — is a large music festival downtown that brings together over 200 musicians and more than 20,000 viewers each year. This time we invite everyone who wants to contribute to the development of cultural and vibrant Kharkiv.
WHAT IS "MUSIC DAY"?
It's an international festival Fête de la musique, that was born in 1982 in France and now takes place in 120 countries. Its basic principle: anyone can join the organization or participate as a performer. There are no age, professional or stylistic restrictions.
Admission to all events is traditionally free!
HISTORY OF "MUSIC DAY" IN KHARKIV
In Ukraine in 2013 Lviv joined the celebration, in 2014 — Kharkiv. Our team started creating "Music Day in Kharkiv" because we realized that the festival, born 37 years ago in France with the idea to unite citizens, is not so much about music as about unity. It's 2021 now, but we still feel how important it is to preserve unity within Ukrainian society.
We started with a small festival at 16 locations in 2014 and expanded "Music Day" coverage to 50 locations and events in 2019. The number of visitors increased from 10 to 27 thousand people. And in 2020 the festival went to safe online streams format Make Music Day Ukraine, uniting Kharkiv and Lviv.
AMBITIOUS GOAL AND PLANS
We believe that Kharkiv can loudly announce its musical potential to the world! And we want Kharkiv to get an alternative city day — "Music Day", because this day unites Kharkiv residents regardless of age, tastes, religion and political beliefs and turns the entire city into a stage. We dream of turning the celebration into a tradition, so from this year we invite everyone to become co-organizers!
Now everyone can create their own location and invite musicians, and we'll add it to the general city map and make sure as many people as possible learn about it.

WHO ARE WE?
We are a team of like-minded people with great love for what we do.
Someone learned about this idea and dared to implement it.
Someone joined as a volunteer and grew in our project to become cool cultural managers in other major projects: Plan B fest, Parade fest, Kharkiv branch of "Building Ukraine Together" program and others.
And someone came to share their own experience and resources to give such a celebration to all residents of Kharkiv!
During 7 years of organizing "Music Day in Kharkiv" we felt that the city needs events made by people for people, events you can join to create history together, not wait for manna from heaven from the powers that be.
"Music Day" in Kharkiv happens thanks to the efforts of many people: the coordinator team, volunteers, benefactors, location organizers, musicians and visitors. We also build a network of "Music Days" in Ukraine and spread our experience to other cities. We have our own successful projects, but we unite each time for our "Music Day".
FUNDING
"Music Day in Kharkiv" — is a non-commercial volunteer festival created on a voluntary basis for a wide range of people. The principle of festival organization is "doing together", so every year we unite with all interested parties and encourage everyone to participate in any convenient way.
