Our activity in the East aims at local engagement, cooperation with residents to expand their rights and opportunities. Our ground work has several directions:
- Evacuation and protection: from the first days of full-scale invasion we evacuate from hottest spots (Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Bakhmut, Siversk, Toretsk, New York and others), find shelter and help with reintegration.
- Rehabilitation art camp in Western Ukraine: healing and self-expression for displaced children through art and interaction with nature.
- Cultural and educational program for children in frontline cities and villages: Yarova, Tetyanivka, Sviatohirsk, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Yasnohorivka, Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, Mykolaivka: here we work with children and teens on a regular basis, draw, sculpt, learn, play, make music, communicate, share ideas and dreams.
- Access to primary healthcare: Providing basic medical care and distributing free medicines in remote frontline villages.
- Full relocation - Rebase: Relocating families from combat zones, providing new housing and support. We raise money and buy new houses with land for families from combat zones and relocate them with all property, belongings, animals and tools. Currently bought 3 houses in central Ukraine and relocated 3 families (18 people, 6 children among them).
Base UA launches a new initiative in Kramatorsk to further support children and youth during Russia's full-scale invasion. We create a new physical space designed with their safety and wellbeing in mind. This space has a bomb shelter with second exit and ventilation. Main rooms on the first floor have no windows, ensuring a safer environment.
In this safe space Base UA will expand its work with children, dedicating a separate room equipped with all necessary infrastructure for online learning. Understanding that many children lack access to computers at home or have unreliable internet, we aim to fill this gap and facilitate their learning, which will again be exclusively online.
Additionally, this space will serve as a hub for regular art workshops, educational events and support programs. It will become a safe haven for children who not only experience war hardships but also face social isolation. Here they can find new interests, develop their talents, communicate with peers, play, share their experiences and circumstances they find themselves in.
With winter approaching, this space will also play an important humanitarian role. Children will be able to come in from the cold, warm up, have hot drinks, watch movies, read books and participate in various activities. Parents can join their children, creating a sense of comfort and community during these difficult times.
