Open Opinion - Odessa

The "Open Opinion-Odessa" project is an independent group of sociologist scientists not only from the Southern Palmyra, but also from other cities of Ukraine, who want to study the real situation in Odessa in the interests of its residents. The survey will be conducted in the format of "open research" (collaborative open research) with the aim of studying the level of social well-being of Odessans, as well as the degree of their readiness to participate in the life of the city.
What will conducting a study of social well-being within the "Open Opinion Odessa-2017" project, funded by the "crowdfunding" method, give to Odessans?
1. Odessans will receive complete, deliberately unedited/uncut in any way by any single customer information about the social situation on the subject of research.
2. Moreover, systematic information, not fragmentary. About the system of factors on which the well-being of the overwhelming majority of Odessans significantly depends.
3. And from the entire population (age boundaries of the sample are subject to discussion), not only from those people who interest certain customers.
4. Citizens will ultimately receive a large volume of sufficiently reliable empirical information in public access. Of course, the value of this information will primarily be determined by the thoughtfulness and professionalism of the program and tools of this research. The presence of a pre-developed quality program and research tools is absolutely necessary for operational research on a relatively narrow range of issues. Of course, this is only possible when sociologists are guided not by momentary requests "on current issues" formulated by specific private customers when developing these programs. But by the interests of the territorial community of the city. With benevolent cooperation, but at the same time strict quality control of the work of the team of performers at all stages of research by the community of professional sociologists.
5. The benefit for the city and its residents is that by clarifying the real situation in one or another of these "spheres, we get the opportunity, firstly, to discover the most "painful" (from the point of view of Odessans) aspects of our fellow citizens' lives. And, secondly, to identify the most disadvantaged groups/layers of Odessa's population who suffer most from corresponding "troubles".

Public opinion is a sensitive barometer of social moods. To make Odessa the best city in Ukraine, a systematic solution is needed, which should be based on knowledge of what the real moods and activity of Odessans are, ready to take part in the development of the city and improving their own lives in it. Today it is extremely important and relevant to study the social well-being of Odessans, as well as their readiness to participate in the life of the territory where they live. Our research will be an agglomerate of "reality" and "knowledge" that will allow accumulating the energy of Odessans ready to take active part in city life.

This problem will be solved by conducting a mass representative survey of the population of Odessa with a sample of at least 800 people. The sample will represent the population by such parameters as gender, age, nationality, area of residence. The survey will be conducted using face-to-face interviews on the streets of Odessa. The general population of the study is the city population (14+). To ensure survey representativeness, a mixed sampling method will be used (probabilistic and quota at different stages).
A full-scale sociological study on the territory of Odessa will be conducted in the format of "open research" (collaborative open research) by an initiative group of sociologists representing leading sociological companies and universities of the city and other regions of Ukraine.
To ensure openness and independence of the research, the development and discussion of the methodology and tools of the survey takes place in public space. For this purpose, an open group was created in social networks "Open Opinion -Odessa" https://www.facebook.com/groups/538714289655761/?ref=bookmarks
Details about the research results will be reported at the final press conference.
Research funding is planned to be provided from funds collected in this project, as well as sponsorship funds, primarily from media.
