Therapeutic Retreats for Military Volunteers
Who are we?
We are the non-governmental organization "Horizon of Changes." Since 2021, at the "Khata Skrayu" space in Kholodny Yar (village of Melniky, Cherkasy region), we have been implementing psychological recovery programs for people who live and work under conditions of prolonged stress.
During this time, over 150 participants were able to restore their inner resources, stabilize their psycho-emotional state, and return to their activities with renewed strength. Our goal is to help people overcome the effects of burnout and restore the inner foundations needed for continued work and life.
Who supports those who support the country?
Today, over 51% of Ukrainian military volunteers are on the verge of critical emotional and physical exhaustion (according to research by the Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum).
These people live in 24/7 mode. They search for vehicles and drones, organize fundraisers, pack parcels, coordinate aid, and respond to hundreds of messages every day. They have become a reliable pillar of the Ukrainian front, but often find no time or opportunity to take care of their own recovery.
The need for such support is extremely high: the number of applications to participate in our retreats already exceeds the organization's financial capacity sevenfold.
Our solution
We aim to provide free psychological recovery for 60 military volunteers during three five-day retreat sessions of 20 participants each at the "Khata Skrayu" space.
The goal of this campaign is to raise 500,000 hryvnias to run the program.
The retreat will combine:
- group and individual work with qualified psychologists;
- somatic practices, grounding exercises, or therapeutic creative workshops;
- ecotherapy — resource restoration through immersion in the unique natural environment of Kholodny Yar;
- a safe space for rest, communication, and rebuilding inner resilience.
Participants will be selected based on a questionnaire, which will allow us to provide support to those who need it most.
Results we have already measured
We assessed the effectiveness of previous sessions.
Based on the results of pre- and post-program questionnaires, the average inner resource score of participants increased 2.5 times after completing the program.
In addition, according to a post-project survey, 57% of participants reported that they implemented the psychological resilience tools they received within their teams or volunteer hubs.
What will the funds raised be used for?
All funds raised within this campaign will be directed toward organizing and conducting three retreats for 60 military volunteers.
Specifically, for:
- accommodation at the "Khata Skrayu" space;
- full three-meals-a-day catering from local produce;
- the work of psychologists and other involved specialists;
- conducting restorative practices or workshops;
- organizational costs and materials for sessions.
After the fundraising is complete, we will begin recruiting participants and forming groups.
By supporting those who help hold our front, we strengthen the entire country.
