"Different Children — Equal Opportunities"
We are the Public Organization "Zaporuka Maybutnoho", Odesa, working to uphold every child with a disability's right to equal education and a dignified start to the new school year. A simple yet powerful idea: no one should be left behind due to limited opportunities.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The goal is to provide 100 children with disabilities from the Odesa community with a full set of school supplies by September 1, 2026. This is not just a distribution of stationery. We are affirming every special child's right to be equal among equals, to learn, create, and grow alongside their peers. For families raising children with cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, or genetic syndromes, purchasing a full set of school supplies is not a small matter — it is a genuine financial challenge. Parents, mostly mothers, combine round-the-clock care for their child with work under wartime conditions. For them, this project is real support.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
The fifth year of full-scale war is exhausting Ukrainian families physically, emotionally, and financially. Families of children with disabilities are in a doubly vulnerable position: they bear the burden of round-the-clock care without adequate state support, under conditions of constant threat and economic instability. At the same time, inclusive education in Ukraine is actively developing — more and more children with special needs are studying in mainstream schools. But without basic school supplies, even the most motivated child cannot fully participate in the learning process. September 1 is a symbolic point of equality, when it is especially important that every child feels: society sees them, values them, and supports their right to education.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
- 100 children with disabilities will receive a full set of school supplies by September 1, 2026
- Children will be ensured an equal start to the school year — readiness, confidence, and a sense of community support
- Society receives tangible proof that inclusion is not a slogan, but real practice
- The community unites around the shared value of equality and support for the most vulnerable
- Volunteers, donors, and caring Odesa residents become part of the movement for inclusive education
OUR EXPERIENCE:
We are motivated by the eyes of our children — that moment when a child with special educational needs has the opportunity to go to school or study individually with a teacher, holding their own school backpack. These moments are our mission. We measure the success of the project not only by the number of kits distributed, but also by how many children on September 1 felt equal among equals.
Inclusion is a right, not a privilege.
