Inclusive sensory rooms "Sixth Sense"
In Odessa there are no facilities for games and socialization for children with developmental disabilities. There is treatment and rehabilitation, sometimes education, but absolutely no place for play. Where a child can feel like a child, be among children and fun, not doctors and teachers. At the same time 3008 children with disabilities live in the city. And this is without counting children with developmental disabilities who have not yet been diagnosed.
Our team decided to create a network of interactive sensory rooms "Sixth Sense" for children with developmental disabilities.
A sensory room is a space for psychological relief. Such rooms contain various light-musical equipment, sensors, toys and massage devices — everything that through impact on the senses helps to relax or, conversely, concentrate. Even an ordinary ball pool, wall bars or a bubble column with fish can have a therapeutic effect and help children with autism relieve nervous tension.
The emphasis in our rooms will be on the play component. Children will play and spend time usefully under the supervision of specialists, and their parents can devote some time to themselves.
Why it's important to support the project:
- the first sensory room designed for leisure and play for special children will open in Odessa.
- while the child plays, parents can drink a cup of coffee, walk or go shopping. A rested mother can give much more to her family!
- around this room a community of people raising children with disabilities may emerge, and they can support each other.
The project team has already found premises for the first room and with the help of the "Eastern Europe" foundation purchased basic equipment. It remains to complete the equipment and conduct electricity there.
