"Scena" Yard — a platform for culture

UPDATED: The project raised the necessary funds. Several tons of garbage were removed from the yard, two stages were set up, seating areas, tiles were relaid and garage gates were decorated with drawings. In summer 2019, Ukraine's first good neighbor school started operating in the yard, where proactive city residents learn to fill their yards with cultural life.

In the very center of Odessa, at 43 Zhukovsky Street, there is a small courtyard hidden — "Scena" yard. One side of the yard is a wall of an already destroyed old building, which very much resembles theater scenery.

If we transform and improve the yard, it will become a unique, independent summer platform for cultural events and live communication in the center of Odessa.

We want to create a modern, "living" attraction.

Develop good neighborliness so people communicate more and help each other.

Change yard space for comfortable living of people, not for comfortable parking of cars.

"Scena" Yard is a start for young artists, singers and other creative people who find it difficult at the initial stage to gather an audience and find a venue for performances in the city center.

Here everyone who is passionate about their activity or hobby can share knowledge with others in the format of lectures, master classes and workshops.

Responsibility for developing public spaces, for their own yards, and later for streets, quarters, districts lies with the city residents themselves.

Let's diversify cultural urban leisure! We will create places of attraction for active community of citizens who want to change their yards, their city, helping each other on the principles of self-organization.

The following problems will be solved:

• famous Odessa yards are losing their color;
• there became little live human communication;
• there are practically no modern interesting attractions;
• Odessa yards are not improved;
• highlights and features of Odessa yards are not known (and practically every yard has them: rails to the yard, destroyed wall from WWII times, etc.);
• neighbors don't know each other;
• yards became more comfortable for cars;
• beginning artists find it difficult to find a venue for performances in the city center;
• people don't have the habit of developing and improving public spaces, such as their own yards;
• on weekends there are few opportunities and offers for cultural leisure.

The solution to problems can be revitalization of an old Odessa yard, as an example for revival of other yard spaces. For this it's necessary to build a stage, improve and green the yard.

The end result will be creating an independent summer platform for theatrical and musical performances, exhibitions, lectures and live communication of people in the very center of the city at 43 Zhukovsky Street (between Aleksandrovsky Avenue and Tiraspol Square).
