Opening astronomy club for elementary school children

In the modern world children are very active in their knowledge and our goal is to help channel their impulse in the right direction. The club will allow children to get acquainted with the basics of astronomy, mathematics, public speaking and start working on scientific projects with astronomers.

For results it is necessary to hold regular meetings throughout the school year. The club's activities will take place at the Odessa Astronomical Observatory, but there is a problem with the room for children. We were allocated an auditorium that needs renovation. We have some building materials, but we need help with roof repair. For now classes will be held in the variable stars department hall, which is not intended for these purposes.

Currently in Ukraine there are several astronomy clubs in Kharkiv, Kiev. In Odessa there is a club where high school children study. They prepare for olympiads and MAN. There is no analog of an astronomy club for elementary school children in Ukraine. The club worked from March to May 2017 and now we are ready to start a new year, which will last from September to May 2018. But for work we need a heated room where children will be comfortable.

Within the astronomy club children will be able to participate in various scientific projects in astronomy and astronautics. The best projects will be presented at the Small Academy of Sciences. These activities will be aimed at ensuring that children not only know astronomy and mathematics, but also learn to speak publicly, which will be an invaluable quality for a child.
