Parklet for improving urban space

UPDATED: The parklet was installed at the corner of Polskaya and Bunina streets. Read the project implementation report at this link.
Odessa lacks resting places along the streets.
Sidewalks turn into parking lots where it's impossible to walk or pass - cars park right up against building facades, depriving pedestrians of the ability to walk. To bypass obstacles, people go onto the roadway.

A parklet is a small recreation area in large cities, particularly business districts, that serves as an extension of the sidewalk. Mainly parklets are installed on car parking spaces at the same level as the sidewalk, occupying several parking spots.
The first parklet in Odessa will be located at Polskaya Street corner of Bunina Street, near the arch.

Installing a parklet in this location will create not only a barrier for cars, but also give people a small public area where they can rest.

Parklets are not a new invention. They have long been popular in other countries. Their appearance and design can look completely different.

In Ukraine, the first parklet was installed in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Now a similar resting place exists in Pavlograd.

And this is Chernivtsi.

Here are more examples of parklets in other countries :)

1. The problem of sidewalks occupied by cars (which directly violates traffic rules).
2. The problem of lack of resting places for pedestrians.
3. The problem of lack of aesthetically attractive areas.
By installing a parklet.
