After the full-scale invasion, Caritas Kramatorsk evacuated part of its staff from Donetsk region to Chervonohrad, Lviv region, where it continues working with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable local population, among which are families with children with disabilities. These children need special support, both in peaceful and especially wartime. After all, specialized institutions or specially equipped spaces for rehabilitation and development were destroyed, damaged or completely absent in host communities. Caritas Kramatorsk specialists have been implementing projects and mini-initiatives aimed at development and socialization of children with disabilities since 2017.
Chervonohrad community is one of the communities in Lviv region that registered the largest number of internally displaced persons since the beginning of hostilities. Currently, 6710 IDPs live here, including 2165 children. Also, 15780 people with disabilities live in the community, including 540 children with disabilities.
Research in correctional pedagogy shows that the most effective approach to developing cognitive and social skills is sensory development and play activities. That is, the more diverse the development of a child's hearing, vision, taste and tactile sensations, the easier it is for them to develop intellectually and emotionally, which promotes better integration into society.
Caritas Kramatorsk invites you to join the creation of a modern interactive space "Sensory Room" for effective development of children with disabilities and children of other categories.
A sensory room is a specially organized environment containing many diverse stimulators that affect organs of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and vestibular receptors. Classes in the sensory room are aimed at solving three main tasks: development, activation and relaxation.
For development, special equipment and didactic materials are used that stimulate various sensory systems: developing concentration and attention control, correcting and restoring visual-motor coordination, receptor sensitivity; correcting mental states – reducing aggression and anxiety; preventing mental and physical fatigue.
Children's activation is possible through games with various tactile paths, trainers, sports modules.
During relaxation, through the use of various light and sound effects, the child relaxes, calms down, emotional and physical tension is relieved.
