NGO "Woman of the Future" has implemented several similar projects: "Advocating for opening a shelter in Berdyansk district for women affected by GBV: conducting sociological research and working with community leaders on GBV (UNDP)". Mini-initiatives implemented: "Safety through cinema" and "Multifunctional youth hub "Youth hab"" from (UNDP) in Berdyansk district. Director Zakomorna V.S.
In our region, the specific feature is that we are 30 km from the front line and Zaporizhzhia city concentrates a large number of IDPs with children. According to statistics, over 270,000 people, including over 5,000 Berdyansk residents. The psychological service of Berdyansk Multidisciplinary Gymnasium №2 conducted a survey among students. Results showed: 50% of parents and children are in a stressful state due to unstable security situation, lack of full communication, limited socialization of children and women.
Almost all extracurricular educational institutions in Zaporizhzhia region work in online format, only some clubs work offline in safe conditions. Currently, there are 371 children from Berdyansk in Zaporizhzhia, but not all have the opportunity to attend clubs because existing spaces are overcrowded or children are used to their club leaders who taught in Berdyansk. Locations do not meet safety requirements, constant interruptions occur due to continuous air alerts. There is a lack of equipped safe spaces for children of different age categories in underground premises for cultural-educational and training events.
Thus, by creating a safe space, we solve the problem of children's asocialization and adaptation disorders that arose from online communication, learning, and forced displacement.
Therefore, organizing a safe space for Berdyansk residents will provide an opportunity to unite children for communication with peers, learn and psychologically unload both children and their parents offline in premises that meet safety requirements without interrupting the educational process during air alerts.
Our project is long-term. The created space will continue to operate until Berdyansk's liberation. After the project ends, teachers will continue to conduct events, impacting development, socialization and unity of children and their parents. All purchased furniture, equipment, robotics sets are taken on the balance of Berdyansk Multidisciplinary Gymnasium №2, ensuring their storage and maintenance.
Equipping a safe space on the territory of Zaporizhzhia Regional Library for children and their parents to conduct cultural-educational "robotics" events and art therapy events for socialization and improving emotional state of Berdyansk residents during war.
