How does inclusive theater sound?

We are an inclusive theater studio of teenage hub Halabuda. Where 20 teenagers study, most of whom have various forms of disability. We were inspired by the first successful crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for a piano. And now we want to complete the set of musical instruments of the hub and buy: a piano case, a set of chime bars, tubuses, octavators for tubuses.

For this we organize the performance THE WHITE RABBIT, where playback theater actors will improvise and show in the format of a performance the stories of viewers who will come to the show.

ABOUT HUB HALABUDA

The hub has been operating since 2018. Project manager Natalia Shevchenko - psychologist, playback practitioner, and hospital clown, who has been conducting playback theater classes since 2016.

The hub holds classes for teenagers that help them communicate, engage in creativity and encourage their development. All classes are free.

Since 2020, the hub began classes of an inclusive studio, where we engage in various forms of theatrical art.

Thanks to classes at the hub, teenagers and youth with mental disabilities not only develop, they have the opportunity to significantly expand their circle of communication, improve their communication skills, realize their talents on stage, feel like an important part of society.

Now we are starting work on a new performance that is designed more for teenage peers of our actors. The performance will be created through research and creative laboratories, musical, choreographic, playback theater performances, to which we also involve students and teenagers.

WHAT DO WE NEED FUNDS FOR?

We have already successfully raised funds to purchase an electronic piano that will be used in musical, vocal and choreographic classes. And this inspired us to move forward! So we decided to open a new collection to buy a set of percussion chime bars with cases and a piano case for transportation!

Classes with musical instruments will help our teenagers develop a sense of rhythm and elementary music skills! We will be able to create musical ensembles and small musical orchestras with teenagers who will create original musical arrangements during performances.

In classes our teachers use the Orff approach, which combines music making, singing and dancing. But musical instruments used in this approach are very expensive. We plan to purchase a set of chime bars. Chime bars are similar to xylophones, but each note is placed on a separate bar - this way, up to 8 people can play simultaneously in a mini-orchestra on one set.

We also plan to purchase an additional set of tubuses. Tubuses not only develop a sense of rhythm, but also help release excess tension, are well suited for creating a mini-orchestra, for group music making. All teenagers without exception play tubuses with great pleasure! We already have one set in the studio, which we used in the performance "Colored Kitten", but when the whole team of teenagers gathers for classes, there are not enough instruments for everyone.
